Sri Vikrama Rajasinha (1798-1815), the last king of the Kingdom of Kandy, was detained in Colombo for nearly ten months as a prisoner of war under the British Empire. On January 25, 1816, he was exiled to Madras aboard HMS Cornwallis, accompanied by his relatives, British civil servant William Granville (1785-1764) was assigned responsibility for overseeing their journey and successfully managed this duty for about a month until disembarking at the Pulicat shore. Granville’s journal from this period is a valuable resource for studying King Sri Vikrama Rajasinha, though it is currently out of print. This edition, featuring a Sinhala translation by Nimesha Thiwankara Senevipala, a Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS) officer and emerging scholar, is being published 94 years after its initial release.
